At the 17th International Media Days conference in Dubrovnik the main topic was Generative Artificial Intelligence. What distinguishes generative AI from other types of AI is its ability to rapidly generate content based on users’ instructions or queries and can also transform content from one format to another, for example from text to visuals. Experts from whole Europe gathered to discuss the intersection of artificial intelligence and disinformation in Europe’s media landscape.
Among the standout contributions was that of the Bulgarian-Romanian Observatory of Digital Media (BROD) coordinator Keith Peter Kiely, PhD, and Boyan Dafov from Sofia University’s GATE Institute Understanding Pre-election Voter Intention and Electoral Dynamics in Bulgaria: First and second order voting and the 2024 European and Parliamentary Elections.
Ruslana Margova, PhD, also from the GATE Institute, presented a qualitative analysis of Community Notes in Bulgaria and Romania - a work in the frame of BROD with Romanian partner from SNSPA Andreea Stancea.
All researchers underscored the need for responsible AI development and cross-border academic cooperation, reaffirming Southeastern Europe’s vital contribution to the global fight against disinformation.
