On October 9 th, the National University of Political Studies and Public Administration (SNSPA), Bucharest, Romania, hosted the event Digital Truths: A Conversation on Misinformation with Beth Goldberg from Google and Romanian Experts. The event facilitated conversations between the Head of Research & Development, Jigsaw, Google, and Romanian experts, among which, Alina Bârgăoanu, Dean of the Faculty of Communication and Public Relations, and member of the Advisory Board of EDMO and Nicoleta Corbu, coordinator of research within the Bulgarian-Romanian EDMO hub (BROD) and member of the EDMO Expert Group on Structural Indicators for the Code of Practice on Disinformation. Alina Bârgăoanu open the discussions, with an intervention about the main effects of disinformation and coordinated efforts to fight the phenomenon, in the wake of the recent events in Israel. Nicoleta Corbu presented the main activities of the EDMO hubs (especially BROD), with a focus on the recent discussions about the implementation of the Code of Practice on Disinformation, the Digital Services Act, and the need for collaboration between the very large online platforms and search engines and the European Commission to find bridges in the fight against disinformation. Beth Goldberg talked about the Google’s mission to find effective ways to address the disinformation phenomenon, and facilitated a practical workshop on how to effectively prebunk disinformation. Journalists, representatives of the Romanian authorities, practitioners, professors and students participated in the event.
